Missouri has long been known as one of 3 areas highly populated by Germans in the mid-late 1800’s and their influence is still seen in Saint Charles particularly in an area now known as Frenchtown (ironic). As you drive around Saint Charles and the County, it would be difficult to ignore street names such as Schulersburg Road, Schwede Road, Zumbehl Road, or towns Cottleville and New Melle, or Ft. Zumwalt School Distict….all a nod to our German roots.
Midwest Maifest is a German Spring Festival (postponed from May 2020) to celebrate the rich German heritage in Missouri. We host craft beer brewers, wineries, spirit distillers, food vendors and live German entertainment. Maifest will be held on August 30, 2020, in New Town (an area in Frenchtown).
The St. Peters Cultural Arts Centre hosts 6 art shows each year that fill our galleries with original artwork of local artists. Art is for sale in a variety of mediums that include: watercolors, acrylics, oils, ceramics, jewelry and photography. The artwork changes approximately every 53 days. The art show theme scheduled for June 24 – August 15, 2021 is Missouri Bicentennial. Artists are encouraged to create and submit artwork that promotes a better understanding of Missouri, its regions, communities, and the people, both past and present. To learn more about submitting art for one of our shows, including themes, costs, prizes awarded, and our hours of operation, please visit our website.
