Sounds of the Oregon Trail was a benefit concert organized by the Jackson County Historical Society in support of the rehabilitation of the Pioneer Spring Cabin in Independence. The evening featured a live performance by Dana Mengel and other local musicians of selections from Mengel’s original composition, The Oregon Trail Suites for Strings and Percussion. Mengel’s work provides a musical interpretation of the pioneer experience of embarking across the continental United States in a vast westward migration. Wagon trains assembled in western Missouri with many arriving there by traveling up the Missouri River. Mengel has also composed a special musical selection inspired by the log cabin, which will be performed that evening.
The concert was held at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 10, 2018.
