History of Holt County Riverboats
Join us at 2pm on July 25, 2021, for A History of Holt County Riverboats. What later became Forest City was established on the bend of what is now the Missouri River and was a wood yard where the first steamboats would stop to re-fuel on their trips up and down the river. At that time, it was the only settlement on the river other than Indian camps. It later blossomed into a town and was growing by leaps and bounds before the river changed its course leaving steamboats high and dry at the wharf of what was then Forest City. This program will provide a historical view of the impact that the riverboats had on Holt County history, including the effect on the community and the county when the course of the Missouri river changed overnight.
This program is free and open to the public. Donations will be accepted.
