Highways of History
Highways of History is a project designed to rediscover two of Missouri’s historic highways: The historic Planked Road and The Trail of Tears that linked communities and roads through the Mineral Area district in South east Missouri. They became the basis for modern highways joining communities from Ste. Genevieve to Arcadia. This is a regional historical project featuring Washington, Ste. Francois, Iron and Ste. Genevieve counties to highlight and recognize the Trail of Tears and Plank Road development through the counties. During this bicentennial year of the state of Missouri, the Caledonia Community Foundation is sponsoring the entity known as Highway of History regional project to share the word and culture of the Trail of Tears and Plank Road development as it went thru the counties. Each county is invited to have a special day or event to commemorate the history.
