Bicentennial Chess Board

The Saint Louis Chess Club, the World Chess Hall of Fame, and the Great River Council of Boy Scouts of America, in partnership with the Missouri Bicentennial Commission and the State Historical Society of Missouri, will develop a large outdoor chess board on Adrian’s Island as a compliment to the larger Bicentennial Bridge to Adrian’s Island project.

The board will consist of 64 squares, 32 of which will have engravings celebrating the bicentennial and the history of Missouri. Scouts from the Great Rivers Council working on Eagle Projects will build and engrave the chess board and pieces. The project, funded by the Saint Louis Chess Club, will enable a variety of Missouri youth and adults to participate and leave a legacy for Missourians to enjoy after the bicentennial.
