To commemorate the Missouri Bicentennial, Maplewood Barn Community Theatre will produce three plays in 2021 with a Missouri theme, featuring the work of a Missouri playwright, a Missouri subject matter, or a Missouri setting. The three shows selected showcase the wonderful talent of Missouri playwrights, the exciting history and stories of Missouri’s culture and heritage, and the majestic landscapes of this beautiful state. The season continues with “PLAN 9!:The Musical from Outer Space” Book by Chris Bowling & Meg Phillips Crespy with Music & Lyrics by J. West: August 19-22, August 26-29, & September 2-5. Box office opens at 7pm and the show begins at 8pm. Tickets are $13 for adults and $5 for kids 10 and up. Visit MaplewoodBarn.com for more info.

Written by local actors from Columbia, Missouri, PLAN 9! is a loving homage to the works of Z-list filmmaker Ed Wood and his magnum opus "Plan 9 From Outer Space," widely regarded as the worst movie ever made. This cult classic has been reimagined as a rock and roll stage musical, replacing the unintentional comedy of the original with very intentional laughs. After their first 8 plans, each more ridiculous than the last, have failed, three inept aliens have hit upon the ultimate weapon: an "army of the dead" consisting of a paltry three zombies. Can our hapless Earthling heroes survive the onslaught?
